Just came across this incredibly powerful campaign highlighting the plight of Zimbabwean’s and their astonishing inflation. Zimbabwe’s 100 trillion dollar note, which cant even buy a loaf of bread, has been used as a graphic symbol wallpapered with printed messages… Commissioned by the Zimbabwean Newspaper and executed by TBWA its a fascinating and clever method of communicating the issue.
Just stumbled upon a very good resource video by Design Victoria for information on designers ability to influence outcomes through the design process… Also happens to be my father in-law Alan Pears giving the presentation, have a look…
Last week Finn Butler was on 102.7FM RRR ‘The Architects’ talking about the emerging discipline of Wayfinding, his history in the field and some projects we are working on currently…. To listen online click here…
As a world leading cultural centre, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) champions the moving image as a part of our daily lives. As such it needs to meet the needs of all elements of society, and promote the moving image in all its forms.
Recent changes to the architectural layout of ACMI, and the addition of major new exhibition and research facilities, demanded a thorough review of wayfinding at the site. Our strategy focused on a major audit of the site and its context, requiring a detailed analysis of pedestrian behaviour within Federation Square. The mapping of the actual routes taken within Federation Square during a typical weekday morning, record primary pathways, key nodal points, and illustrate a number of key wayfinding challenges found within Federation Square.
Thanks so much to Shane who was driven mad by my obsessive compulsive changing, tweaking and redesigning of our site. Thanks also to Flint Interactive for building what Shane and I envisaged and doing a cracking good job… Please have a look around and love to hear your feedback.
Babel is an exhibition at Craft Victoria by Natasha Dusenjko. A friend of my wife’s, Natasha sent me some images of this exhibition this morning, and I promptly raced down to Craft Vic for a look… Absolutely stunning work that reveals more detail the closer you look, Babel is a word-based collection of fine porcelain and paper works that act as the internal structures and vessels of ancestor memory. Short texts scroll around these objects like a series of incantations, codes and instructions… Its on until the 13/06 so make sure you catch it.
